There are many ponds and lakes in the area but this pond is different:
- This pond, unlike the many other waterways and wetlands in the state, is not threatened by developers and mankind. (Due to the protection of Save The Pond-but this will not continue without help)
- This pond is not used for decoration. The pond is not being sprayed with chemicals for the benefit of mankind and/or its owners.
- The pond does not have a water fountain like most retention ponds. A water fountain is not natural and will offset the harmony of the pond.
- It is not a recreation pond. Ponds and lakes in the area are used for fishing and water craft sports. This would be a detriment to the pond and one of the main reasons wildlife is threatened in the area. A perfect example is the manatees that have been driven almost to extinction and are still a threatened species due to water craft sports.
- The pond does not have noise pollution from people disrupting it and the wildlife can live in peace. This is why the Crane family has chosen to make this their permanent home.
- Domestic pets and live stock are not interacting with the pond; therefore, they are not leaving animal waste behind and disrupting the harmony of this delicate ecosystem.
- It is not a retention pond. In other words this pond is not being polluted from water drains or system run offs that most of the ponds and lakes in the area are subject to. This is a natural pond and only rain or the lack there of is what determines what water will enter the pond. This is why this pond is unique and we must continue to protect it!
How does Save The Pond protect this pond?
Save The Pond does not allow ANYONE, not even ourselves, to come into contact with the pond except for those creatures that live and visit the pond. Domestic pets and live stock are banned from the pond. Our goal is to leave the pond in its “Natural Protected State” and we make sure we do anything and everything possible to make certain the pond is not altered in any way.
How large is the pond?
The pond changes in dimensions according to season. It can be anywhere from an acre in size to more than 3 acres. That is why it is crucial that the pond land site is secure and protected so the pond is not restricted in any way. As of this writing the pond is approximately just over 2 acres in size.
How can it be saved?
By supporting Save The Pond. The pond land site must be secured. If Save The Pond secures the property it will be allowed to remain in its “Natural Protected State.” It will not ever be in danger of mismanagement from anyone else owning the property and the pond itself. We can guarantee this pond is safe but we cannot do it alone. We need your help.
What are the costs associated with the pond?
The pond land site and its surrounding area is about 5 acres. The land site is located about 3 miles from the nearest town. It is very expensive to maintain such a large piece of land so close to town. The cost of the property and maintaining the taxes is a staggering figure. Our goal is to have the land paid for so that the pond site is secure and that the revenue generated from our sales and your donations will cover the annual property taxes, fencing and website. This is why we need your help. This pond has wildlife that depend on it and we need to secure their home and well being. Having the property paid for will ensure their existence for future generations.
What is the history of Save The Pond?
This company and this site were developed to have others join us in our efforts to protect this pond. If this pond can be protected then it proves that others can be as well. A chain reaction will result and pond wildlife will be more secure for future generations. We hope that we can save more ponds in the future and make this world a better planet for wildlife and mankind.
